Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Summertime is high season in Nags Head. Booking your Nags Head vacation rental in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Narrow your Search:

  • Choose your vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Private Pool, Hot Tub
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head destination you love, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or might be applied to your contract.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
