Tips to get the best vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Nags Head area. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. 6 BR Beach House-5 min walk to beach! Heated Pool! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Tips for a great stay:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
