Booking the best vacation property experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitor guide magazines that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to select the best rental home:

  • Choose vacation dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Relaxing Oceanside Retreat with Hot Tub. Village Beach Club included! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many issues.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
