Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose and book a perfect Nags Head rental home:

  • Select your dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Classic sound side Outer Banks beach house, near Jockey's Ridge State Park! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
