Our top Rental home tips and tricks:

When to visit Nags Head & When to reserve a rental home:

  • To book the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Ocean Views has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
